Late last year, my friend Jim and I were in Cuba, ministering to around 50 pastors and spouses, gathered in a small living room. After teaching, we began offering personal prophetic words. I often fall into a rhythm in these settings, hearing from God and delivering messages. But when I reached a young couple, I suddenly went blank. I wasn’t hearing anything, and the rhythm stalled.
I quietly prayed, asking for something to give her. A faint impression came, and I simply said, “I think I’m supposed to tell you that your children are okay.”
Her reaction was immediate and overwhelming. She collapsed to the floor in tears, and her husband knelt beside her, weeping as well. I was stunned. The word had felt simple and uncertain, but the response was powerful.
After the meeting, I approached the woman and her husband to understand what had happened. She shared, “We live over three hours away, and I’ve never been away from my children for this long. I didn’t want to come, but I finally agreed. On the way here, I cried almost the entire drive. My husband tried to comfort me, saying, ‘The prophetic ministers will have a word for you.’ I told him, ‘If they’re from God, the only word I want to hear is that my children are okay.’”
She continued, “When you gave that word, I was stunned. I’ve never felt more known or loved by God than at that moment.”
The power of a simple word never ceases to amaze me. My wife Marie and I are passionate about prophetic ministry, but more so, we love teaching others to do the same. We long to see every church operate in the power of the Holy Spirit, encouraging one another through the manifestations of the Spirit.
